Olinda: Main attractions
Olinda has countless chapels and about 20 churches. Noteworthy amongst them are:
Carmo Church
The oldest church of the Carmelite Order in Brazil, constructed in 1580 and restored in 1720.
Rosario dos Homens Pretos de Olinda Church
The first church in Pernambuco to have a fellowship formed of enslaved and freed black people.
São Salvador do Mundo Church
Located on Alto da Sé, it is known as Sé Church. It was founded in 1540, one of the first constructed in Brazil.
Nossa Senhora da Conceição Convent
Also on Alto da Sé, is one of the oldest convents in colonial Brazil.
Nossa Senhora das Neves Church, São Roque Chapel and São Francisco Convent
The oldest Franciscan construction in Brazil.
São Bento Basilica and Monastery
A construction in the 16th century, the second built on Brazilian territory.
