From Recife International Airport Guararapes – Gilberto Freyre, Olinda is situated approximately 40 minutes by taxi (20 kilometres). Most hotels will arrange a transfer on request, but this will be at an additional charge. This is not necessary if you arrive at a reasonable time, but perhaps advisable if you are going to be a late arrival.

The alternative is a licensed airport taxi which operates to a list of standard charges. It is not advisable to take an unlicensed taxi. There are no direct busses from Recife International Airport to Olinda, although plenty of buses are available from Recife’s city centre, which is situated 7 kilometres from Olinda.

Where to stay

By being smaller, compared with the city of Recife, Olinda offers a smaller number of hotels. Most accommodation options are in pousadas, family-run accommodation, which gives a more familiar environment.
