Refice: Carnival and cuisine
It is a good combination of joy, spontaneity, irreverence and lyricism that take over every city corner. That is how the Carnival of Recife feels like. More than 400 Carnival associations, people in costumes playing on the streets to the sound of frevo, which thrill people of all ages, from all places.
On Saturday of Zé Pereira, the Galo da Madrugada, the world’s biggest Carnival group, rules the party. And during the entire event, Old Recife becomes a big open-air ball.
Typical Cuisine
As a gastronomic centre, Recife offers several regional restaurants, where you can taste both seafood and typical recipes from the countryside.
Drink plenty of coconut water and tropical fruit juice! Be sure to try fried needlefish, peixada, sun-dried meat, sarapatel, giblets, goat buchada, bolo de rolo (a cake with very thin layers filled with guava paste), cocada (sweet coconut candy), nego bom (sweet banana candy) and delicious homemade sweets of regional fruits.
