Recife: Main attractions
Old Recife
It marks the beginning of the city in the 16th century, due to its natural port. The area is full of exciting points: Marco Zero Square and its panel "The Compass Rose" by Cícero Dias; the Park of Sculptures Francisco Brennand, on the pier of the port; late 17th century buildings and eclectic 20th century buildings; and much more...
Paço do Frevo
The museum was opened in reference to this traditional music and dance style, which was declared Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2012. In order to perpetuate and spread the culture of frevo, Paço do Frevo has permanent and temporary exhibitions, dance and music schools, a documentation centre, a recording studio and online radio.
Cais do Sertão
It is a museum of international standard and one of the most modern cultural facilities of the country. The place offers an immersion into people’s culture from the northeast hinterland and the work of Luiz Gonzaga – known as the "King of Baião.” The structure counts on a large exhibition space divided into seven thematic areas, auditoriums and living spaces.
Catamaran Tour
If you take a tour in a catamaran, you will know the centre of Recife from a different perspective! In the late afternoon, with the natural light changing every minute or a night tour, surrounded by the city’s lights, the visitor has a beautiful view of the Sculpture Park, historical buildings and many other attractions.
Francisco Brennand Workshop
It began in 1971 from the ruins of a pottery place from the early 20th century. The former brick and tile factory, surrounded by remnants of Atlantic Forest and the waters of Capibaribe River, “Ceramicas São José” became a source of inspiration and history for the artist Francisco Brennand.
Ricardo Brennand Institute
A castle in medieval style, with immense gardens, outdoor sculptures and beautiful fountains which form the scenery created by Ricardo Brennand, a Pernambuco-born collector, who hold items of priceless cultural value: works of art from all different backgrounds and eras covering a period from the 15th century medieval Europe, the Dutch invasions of Colonial Brazil, the 17th century, until the 19th century of Brazil.
Boa Viagem Beach
It is one of the most beautiful urban beaches in the country. Besides the natural pools, the food sold is an attraction itself: caldinho, coalho cheese, peanuts, fried needlefish, raspa-raspa and many more.
