Lesson 12:
Ceará Highlights
Jericoacoara
300 kilometres in distance from Fortaleza is Jericoacoara, which is considered one of Brazil’s most beautiful beaches. Despite its worldwide fame, the easy rhythm of life in this old fishing village remains the same and as do its sandy streets and the streets which have no electric lamps.
The lakes are one of Jericoacoara’s main attractions. The largest is Jijoca, which is made up of two parts: Blue Lake, which is rustic with simple stalls. The other part is Paradise Lake, which has comfortable Pousadas and restaurants with chill-out lounge areas.
Good winds make this one of Brazil’s best spots for water sports like kitesurfing.
Jericoacoara beach also stands out for its sunset dune. Every day, towards the evening, locals and tourists climb the 30 metres sandhill and watch the sun sink into the sea.
With relaxed restaurants, cheerful bars and typical Forro country style music, this town has nightlife suited to all tastes.
The Intentional Airport of Jericoacoara, which will be completed by the end of 2016, is located in Cruz, on the west coast of Ceara, 22 kilometres from the centre of Jericoacoara.
