Alagoas State
With an economy that depended entirely on growing sugar cane, Alagoas discovered in the 1970s that its natural charms could also bring in money. Today, tourism is the State’s leading source of economy.

Capital – Maceió
The State’s main airport is located in the Capital, Maceió. It offers direct and connected flights to other important capitals in the country.
The state borders the following states: Pernambuco (N and NW); Sergipe (S); Bahia (SW); Atlantic Ocean (E)
Total area: 27,767 square kilometres
Population: 3.3 million (2020)
Main destinations and sites:
Maragogi, Japaratinga, Barra de São Miguel, Piaçabuçu, Marechal Deodoro and Penedo.
