Lesson 2:
Tourism in the region
The Northeast Region is blessed with incredible natural beauty but has a lot more than just beautiful beaches. For this reason, it is one of the Brazilian regions with the most potential for tourism, which would energise the local economy. Here there are hundreds of potential nature tourism sites!
Historical Heritage
It was in the Northeast that the post-Portuguese history of Brazil began. The Portuguese arrived here in 1500, and it is where they started the colonisation of the country. In the Northeast, the colonial period’s main economic activities were developed, made clearly visible in Salvador, São Luís and Olinda, which are considered world cultural heritage sites.
Beaches
The beaches in the Northeast are, without a doubt, the most beautiful in Brazil. Covering an extensive coastline area and nearly 3,338 kilometres of beaches, they take in an average of 300 days of sun each year! The beaches also stand out for their diversity, from the busiest and most animated to the most tranquil, remote and challenging to reach: there is something for everybody.
Nature Tourism
The Northeast boasts spectacular areas, such as Chapada Diamantina, the National Parks of Sete Cidades, Serra da Capivara, Fernando de Noronha, Lençóis Maranhenses and Delta of the Parnaiba River, which are all internationally known for their beauty, biological diversity and growing tourism infrastructure.
