Lesson 12:
Rio Grande do Norte Highlights
North and South Coast, São Miguel do Gostoso, Tibau, Madeiro and Pipa
Tourism in this State stands out for its cities along the coast.
North Coast
Galinhos – 158 kilometres from Natal
It is is a peninsula in the North of the State which is becoming increasingly popular with tourists. It is still barely known and has a rustic, untouched charm ideal for escaping the big city’s bustle. Anyone who comes here will love the relaxing scenery and watching the sunrise above its practically deserted salt and fresh water beaches.
São Miguel do Gostoso – Tourinhos – 101 kilometres from Natal
In the town of São Miguel do Gostoso, one beach that deserves a special mention is Tourinhos. It offers calm waters, stunning sunsets, making it the perfect place for those who want to unwind! There are no wandering salespeople ambling along its shore, just charmingly shaped rocks and tranquillity.
São Miguel do Gostoso has developed rapidly in recent years due to its strong winds, making it an excellent location for kitesurfing, sailing and windsurfing. The beach has some infrastructure for tourism and is quite busy during the high season.
South Coast
Tibau do Sul – 75 kilometres from Natal
This is one of the most charming towns on the South Coast. It’s home to dolphins, Atlantic forest, cliffs and beautiful lakes, which surround a beach encrusted between the Atlantic Ocean and the Guaraíra Lake. Tibau has many accommodation types; for those who want to experience the lively Pipa beach, Tibau is a great place to come to recharge.
Praia da Pipa – 84 kilometres from Natal
Pipa Beach is, without doubt, the most lively and animated beach in the entire region! It attracts visitors from across the globe and is a meeting point for young people from Natal and neighbouring states. Pipa became famous in the 80s when it gained a reputation for its nightlife and non-stop parties.
A short walk from Pipa takes you to Praia do Amor (Love Beach in English!), a sought-after surf beach. As its name suggests, it’s a beautiful, calm place for couples to take a romantic walk beside the sea.
