The Lençóis Maranhenses are an excellent option for those who enjoy adventure. At any time of the year, horse-riding or trekking across the National Park is an incredibly memorable experience. For those who seek a lighter adventure, crossing the Cardoza River on a rubber ring is an enjoyable option. The more daring can opt for a scenic overflight in a single-engine aircraft, to marvel at the immensity of Lençóis, with a panoramic view of the meeting between dunes and sea.

Rubber Ring Crossing: With crystalline waters surrounded by bush, the Cardoza River, next to Barreirinhas, is another of Lençóis’ signature attractions. Ideal for relaxing and taking a dip in the beautiful surroundings, you can also enjoy a fun rubber ring descent down the shallow, crystalline river.

Trekking: Crossing the Park and taking on its fluffy sands in the sun and the heat requires quite a bit of physical preparation and fitness. The available tour itineraries can last between 2 and 5 days, depending on the route taken, and include stops in some of the park’s villages. The trips are begun at dawn to avoid exposure to the hot sun, which starts around 10 am.

One option is to start at Atins, stopping in Baixa Grande, which equates to 6 hours walking. The tour then travels on to Queimada dos Britos, with almost 3 hours of walking and, during the night or the following morning, heads for Santo Amaro. The whole route travels in between the sinuous dunes, reaching up to 40 metres in height. The adventure through this very rare scenery is an unimaginable and unforgettable experience.

Panoramic overflight: Flying over the Lençóis National Park is a unique opportunity to forge unparalleled memories. You can see the immensity of the vast landscape of sand, and spot the lagoons with their different blue and green hues. The sand takes on golden and pink tones in the dry season as it reflects the shimmering sunset. Lasting 30 minutes, the flights are taken in single-engine aircraft and must be booked in advance.
