Lesson 11:
Delta of the Americas
Delta das Américas, Araioses and Tutóia
The third biggest Ocean delta in the world, the Delta das Américas resembles an open hand, where fingers split off from the main tributaries of the Parnaíba river.
This branch out and forms an ecological sanctuary that includes vast mangrove forests with different mangroves (red, white, Siriba, black), riparian forests, beaches, dunes, more than 70 islands and islets, sandbanks and coastal scrublands. Nautical excursions to this natural paradise leave from Tutóia and Araioses.
Ilha das Canárias: The beautiful landscapes here are made up of beaches, coconut trees, typical villages, and stretches of dunes, mangroves, rivers, and streams. Visitors to the region can fish for crabs, stay in hostels, and enjoy unforgettable ecological trips and experiences.
Praia do Pontal das Melancieiras: Located in Tutóia, this beach is visually stunning. It is formed by a very white sand peninsula that extends between a canal and the open sea. It is only possible to visit by boat, and it is necessary to take food and drink with you, as there is no tourist infrastructure in this area.
